No Rest for the Weary

FlashNano Day 7: Let this quote inspire a story: “Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Only God can rest on the seventh day, Annie had three little mouths to feed. If only she and R.J. had taken some days off from creating babies she wouldn’t have to work so hard every single day. But, the bills don’t get paid and the babies don’t get fed if mama doesn’t work seven days a week.

She loves her babies, but RJ up and left two days after the last one was born. “All these brats do is cry an’ you got fat,” he grumbled as he slammed the door, never to be heard from again.

The nerve of babies crying and her being fat two days after popping out a kid. How could they treat him this way?

He wasn’t wrong about how fat she’d gotten, but three babies in under five years tends to wreak havoc on a woman’s body. Ol’ RJ would have none of that “excuse” he said he couldn’t be seen with a “fat chick”, the guys would give him shit.

Apparently, unemployed drunks have a high standard for the women they can be seen with. No matter RJ had a beer gut hanging over his belt that put Santa Claus’ to shame.

The day he left, she wanted to sit down and have a good cry, but a single mama ain’t got time for that shit. Truth be told, she got the best outta RJ and they’re sitting at this wobbly table in a trailer park on the outskirts of town waiting for breakfast.

So on the seventh day, God may have rested, but Annie she’s got work to do.
